Default New cabin baggage restrictions apply from now on all flights within china

Quote:
The Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) has mandated new cabin baggage restrictions on all domestic flights in China, effective from now.
The new restrictions apply to all domestic passengers, including international travellers arriving in China with onward connections to domestic flights.

First Class passengers will now be able to carry a maximum of two pieces of hand luggage, while Business Class and Economy Class passengers will be limited to one piece of carry-on baggage.

The maximum weight of each piece is 5 kilograms, and the dimensions must not exceed 20cm x 40cm x 55cm.

“To minimise inconvenience, it is important that travel agents advise all of their passengers of these requirements, which now affect all airlines operating into China,” said Mr James Liu, General Manager Australia for China Southern Airlines.

“It is particularly important given the interest in travel to China this year for the Olympic Games in Beijing.”

China Southern Airlines operates five weekly nonstop flights from Sydney to Guangzhou and two weekly nonstop flights from Melbourne to Guangzhou

Quite interesting that they are reducing the maximum unit weight below the industry standard 7kg.

Guess that means the change is driven primarily by the need to reduce the weight of the aircraft, and not so much by the need to ensure there is enough space onboard. (Which can be quite an issue at some Asian ports, at least)
