Default Training Exercise at YSSY

http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL...g+exercise.htm

"Exercise Graphite" is a training exercise being conducted today near the GA apron, so expect to see a flurry of activity from the emergency services until its conclusion this afternoon.

Rwy 07 is currently closed east of Twy Delta for the exercise.

Indeed it was huge Nigel.
1000 personnel involved and simulated 300 injured passengers to be rescued. What I heard of 2gb was large plumes of smoke near General Holmes Drive and i saw two fire tenders as i drove just past GA apron.

We can see it from our office and it indeed looked quite exciting. Hopefully they achieved what they wanted out of it, the logistics looked quite impressive.

Nice to see the airport actually releasing this information to avoid unecessary panic.

Sarah, I think it's normal procedure to put out a media release for such events.

From the little info I got this afternoon, I believe it went fairly well. Obviously a full debriefing and analysis will be done for all agencies involved.
