Default QF5 to return to SYD with problem

Just appeared on the 9 news is 'a mid-air drama' relating to QF5 which is reportedly circling the city. Can't see it on PP at the moment.

ATC advised emergency vehicles when QF5 was on a 7nm final and would be the next aircraft to land. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 16R, Tender 6 and Car 2 were cleared to enter the runway following the QF5 touchdown. Threshold wind was 180 at 15kts, and ATC requested QF5 to hold on taxiway Alpha and contact the Fire Commander in Tender 6.

ATC advised that a runway check would need to be conducted after the emergency landing.

Channel 7 reported the incident as an engine problem.

Exactly - what a non event. If it happened an hour later, the 6pm news wouldn't go in to hysterics over it.

Now on Final Call and scheduled to depart at 2130, not sure if a substitute aircraft was required.

I couldn't help chuckling over the standard " a passenger reported seeing flames from the engine" comment
