Yes, the more level headed reports do seem to have converged on it being an engine surge. Not a great thing to happen, but it appears it was handled as it should have been.

Does anyone know the current status of the aircraft? Is the Air NZ 744 still on relief duties?

VOZ has been back in service since Monday of this week.
