Default EgyptAir A320 Hijacked

Hijacked EgyptAir flight lands in Cyprus: reports

A hijacked EgyptAir passenger plane has landed at an airport in Cyprus, the country's state broadcaster says.
EgyptAir confirmed its flight MS181 was hijacked en route from Alexandria to Cairo.

"Our flight MS181 is officially hijacked," the airline said in a statement on Twitter.

The plane landed at Larnaca airport, on the country's south coast, shortly after 9:00am (local time) after asking for permission to land, state broadcaster PIK reported.

The plane was hijacked by one person, Reuters reported, citing sources in the country's civil aviation ministry and police.
About 60 people were onboard, Reuters added.

More to come.

WHAT WE KNOW
EgyptAir says flight MS181 from Alexandra to Cairo was hijacked and landed in Larnaca, Cyprus.
According to EgyptAir, the pilot of the flight was alerted to the threat of a passenger with an explosive belt on board.
The flight initially had 56 passengers, but the airline said negotiations with the hijacker resulted in the release of all passengers except crew and four foreigners.
