I have heard today from a mate over in QLD that the VA B777's are likely to be scrapped at Wellcamp.

Sad.. but won't be the only perfectly serviceable aircraft scrapped around the world.

Very sad indeed!! I do find it strange tho that they have just done an engine change on VPD, I saw some photos of it the other day.

A large number of B777 fleets are being retired & scrapped.

Airbus are pumping out A350's to replace them since Boeing doesn't have a viable replacement.

Mind you, most of the 777s being scrapped are early builds, 20ish years old. The ex-VA birds are form 2009 and later.

I would be surprised given the lack of similar aircraft for sale, two of the ten on offer for sale are ex VA and could go to conversion for freighter as a worst case (which happened to Deltas birds of a similar age), if it happened it would also probably see the cargo door issue rectified.

The last 4 were delivered with small rear aft cargo doors, this makes then extremely unattractive to other carriers.

3 of the 5 didn’t get the option, so there is some hope for VPH
