Default YSSY or Richmond

Hi all,

Going to do some photos on the weekend, either at YSSY or Richmond, after some advise.

If I go to YSSY I want to try and get some head on shots of planes landing, any tips on the best time for this and where.

Also would I be able to get an shots from Richmond? I thought of driving to Williamtown but its to far, does anything fly out of Richmond on weekends?

Thanks in advance.

Dale

You could have some fun with the military police at YSRI if you're photographing stuff that's inside the base. Good luck there. A few people on this board have lived to tell the tale after being caught, but the sensible people either stay away or only photograph the stuff that's outside the boundary fenceline.
Weekends...you might get a Piper Pawnee and a few gliders, as well as the odd lighty if the flying club is still in operation. Not sure if there are many military movements on the weekends these days, but I suggest you re-read the first line again.

Sydney? Well it's predicted to be a warm weekend, so I suggest hiring a boat for the head on shots. If 34's are in use, which they probably will be if there's warm winds, the only place you'll get a head on shot is from the middle of Botany Bay. Just don't stray into the restricted waters and wear lots of sunscreen, a hat and sunnies. Any time of day is ideal, and the sun reflecting off the water will light the underside of the aircraft beautifully, thus negating the need for heaps of shadow/highlight correction in the picture editing phase when you get home.
Fishing is going well in the Bay at this time of year, so don't forget to pack a rod and a few prawns too. You might as well catch dinner while you're out.
