As we taxied past tower in Syd this evening on VH VOS there was a announcement for the first officer that we had a very important pax onboard, who's father was working in the tower and if they could please wave to him out of the left hand window as we passed the tower.

Never heard that before!

We also unusually did a lap of the block in Melbourne - we were on a taxiway in front of the Virgin Apron and then did a lap around past freight area then back again must have gone too far and not left space for a departing airraft to exit apron area?????

The area in front of the extension to Int Terminal is now all open.
Last night the aircraft literally did a lap of the block we sat for for a while at enterance to Virgin Apron - right turn up past freight area, right again heading towards runway, another right and down a taxiway heading North, then right again back to were we had been sitting a few minutes before, then on to Gate 13.

Would have been waiting for an aircraft that pushed back from the 'foxtrot' pier to clear the apron not uncommon to taxi up serria further and back onto alpha and hold.
