ATR-72-212 WI-SLM Nose Wheel Collapse

Aer Lingus ATR72-212 EI-SLM operating Flight EI3601 from Manchester had a nose wheel collapse on landing at Shannon airport today. No injuries have been reported.

The Shannon Emergency Services attend the scene following this morning's landing accident involving Aer Arann/Aer Lingus Regional ATR.72-212, EI-SLM,which was arriving from Manchester. Thankfully there have been no reports of serious injuries to passengers or crew.

The Journal is reporting high winds as playing a major factor.

It’s now thought the weather is the most likely factor behind the incident, which saw the pilot aborting an initial attempt to land, before circling and landing the plane on a second attempt.
It was during the second attempt that it became apparent that the nose wheel had been damaged, and the plane skidded to a halt on the grass verge next to the airstrip.
