Default A different way to make some cash...

Just watching my first episode of Top Gear Australia and noticed they are using Camden in Sydney's south west for the filming of the time trials. Both the taxiways and Rwy 06/24 are being used.

Quote:
C0083/08 REVIEW C0082/08
RWY 06/24 NOT AVBL DUE VEHICLES ON RWY
EXC WITH 24H PRIOR NOTICE IF OPR REQUIRED.
OR MEN AND EQPT WILL CLEAR WI 10MIN FOR EMERGENCY.
FROM 10 140100 TO 10 150500
OK, so the airport would no doubt be making some extra cash for the use of the facilities, but does anyone know if the aircraft operators are being compensated in any way? I acknowledge that the grass strip is still available.

Interesting you should say that, because the X6 segment was filmed on Eastlink and up in the Yarra Ranges, so I was trying to figure out which Melbourne area airport it was.

Thanks Nigel.

Makes no sense to me when there's a perfectly good motor racing circuit (Oran Park) just a few miles away...

I think they're trying as hard as possible to copy the UK version...even though they say they aren't, the only differences I can notice are the quality of the presenters and writers!

It makes plenty of sense to me...
Oran Park will be closed either late this year or early next year and be sold off for housing, just like the good ol' Amaroo Park raceway at Annangrove. It's not a long term option for the producers.

Besides, there's no-one (except perhaps the local safety officer...) who can compare times around their circuit when their Stig and celebrities go for a fang.

The studio shots are done out at YSBK. Chopper Mal might have some opinions to share on this thread...
