Default New overbooking rules in US

Quote:
Passengers bumped off US flights due to overbooking could see their compensation doubled under new legislation from the US Department of Transportation. The rule will see passengers reimbursed anywhere up to $800, twice as much as the previous limit. The new rule will apply to all commercial aircraft that carry more than 30 passengers.

A couple of years back UA offered me US$800 to be bumped off an overbooked flight from LHR to ORD if everyone showed up. They guaranteed me a later flight the same day.

Unfortunately there were some no shows.

Dave,
Some of these overbookings can work out well. I've been given $400 for an overbooked flight, guaranteed out five hours later only to have the original aircraft delayed and I managed to get in first
Paid for the return tkts easy!
Scott.

The $800.00 could have paid for a side trip to Seattle, Scott.
