Default Rugby World Cup 2011

Hey guys,

With RWC round the corner I am curious as to whether Qantas will boost capacity on any of the NZ routes. Also does anyone know of any possible charters that could be heading down under?

Cheers

Hey thanks Stefan,

That didin't take ya long to get that info together.

Am hoping the South African team come down on an SA bird and that the English bring a BA aircraft with them.

But as you say i'm sure more info will come out as the tournament draws closer

Plenty of extra capacity. South Africa are going with QF, as are the Argentina team.

I would think the northern hemisphere teams will just go commercial.

RWC seems like it's going to be a bit of a financial disaster for New Zealand.

Not only are there 1000's of seats between OZ & NZL when Wallabies playing, there are thousands of frequent flyer seats.

Admittedly the CHC earthquake didn't help, but also greed seems to have got in the way.

Rather than have earlybird deals, prices started out very high & now lots left unsold.

Saw the other day that someone was selling 1/4 final games in WLG with accommodation on a contra basis, meaning they can't sell them for cash.

Bloody hard to get flights to WLG though for these games, as only a few extra flights have been put on, but you can get Qantas ff seats into CHC or AKL & then buy tickets from there to WLG or PMR I guess.

Suggest that RWC organisers might have to give tickets away FREE to all games (except All Black games) to local school kids to get a decent crowd to the games.

Good summary there Andrew - I think there are two key issues. Accomodation is so expensive and is so limited (particularly in the regional areas) so either it is sold out or hoteliers are trying to take advantage and it is not working. The other thing was the tickets - too many of the game tickets went to travel agents and others (particularly the finals) for groups and corporate hospitality. People don't have that sort of money.

There are plenty of flights, plenty of seats and plenty of low fares. The only real busy day for all airlines would be the day after the final.

RWC organisers really need someone to package set packages(no flexibility but cheap) unsellable flights, accom & game tickets. Ok might have to fly into CHC on JQ & then connect domestically, but how else are the airlines, hotels, RWC organisers going to fill seats/beds at this very late stage.

By having no flexibility in packages, it makes the whole process of selling them easier & quicker, hell they could auction them on various websites like grays, ebay etc.

Guys are generally not as fussy about where they stay, if not travelling with spouse or girlfriend.

Eg. a package could be

flights from A to B
x nights accom in double or single
game tix.

If people wanted to fly home later, they could get there own flights coming home, as an extra.
