Post Aireon aircraft tracking getting closer

This development was triggered after the loss of MH370 - it uses ADS-B with the Iridium satellite network. Fortuitously, Iridium built ADS-B receivers into each of its satellites.

It’s got nothing to do with the loss of MH370, having been in situ as a program a good three years before the loss of MH370, and of course would not have helped anyway with the ADSB being disabled.

It’s more to do with LRIT/AIS and how they track ships in remote areas via Satellite, adopting the same methodology to ADSB. The primary monetisation of the idea is in traffic info and control, ie Air Traffic Control systems, as it is with the marine version they (Irridium) did with Harris https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-oZiKquf5Gg
