Could Qantas announce a top up 787 order for late 2020/21 on Thursday?

Nothing announced yesterday on any additional QANTAS 789 orders.

The Boeing 2019 production list has three QANTAS 789s slotted for delivery in 2019 with no specific date or month specified. This is confirmed in Alan Joyce's report:

Quote:
Qantas International took delivery of three 787-9s in the half with a further six arriving from the first half of FY20 to take the total fleet to 14.
Does anyone know any specific delivery dates for the 789s and on what services the aircraft may be utilised on? According to QANTAS schedules, the 744s are still flying on all current services in February, 2020, apart from HNL where A333s take over in late August 2019.

I have just seen a post dated 1 February, 2019 on the Australian Business Traveller site that has given some information on the QANTAS 789 delivery schedule and quoted the same line numbers as you, Greg:

Quote:
Qantas is only due to receive 3 787-9's this year with all 3 to be delivered in Q4 this year most likely over a 6 week period in November/December. Line numbers for these aircraft will be LN921, LN929 and LN941.
We await an announcement on which routes the new aircraft will fly. Is Perth to Paris off the radar with the dispute with Perth airport over the expanded use of the domestic terminal for international flights? If so, SYD to SFO must be in line to be switched to the 789.

I thought AJ said that as they phase out the B744 the B789 will take over that line of flying? So one for one basis?

QANTAS 789 VH-ZNG operated QF128 overnight and is turning around as QF127 from gate 9 this morning at 9:30 as the Dreamliner commences services to Hong Kong daily except Wednesdays. If I am not mistaken this is the first scheduled 789 international service from Sydney.

QANTAS has announced that 789s due for delivery from October, 2019 will replace 744s from SYD to SFO on a daily basis from 4 December, 2019.

Quote:
Qantas has today announced Sydney-San Francisco as the next route for its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

From 4 December 2019, customers travelling between Sydney and San Francisco will experience the Dreamliner’s next generation Economy, Premium Economy and Business cabins.

The change is timed with the phased delivery of the airline’s six additional Dreamliners as the more efficient aircraft gradually replaces the Boeing 747 aircraft on Qantas’ international network by the end of 2020.

The Sydney-San Francisco Dreamliner service will operate daily and complements Qantas’ existing Dreamliner service between Melbourne and San Francisco which operates four times per week.

The QANTAS timetable has already been updated to reflect the introduction of the 789 from SYD to SFO. Same departure, arrival and flight times as with the 744 up to 4 December, 2019.
