Default Weather In Sydney & Melbourne

Many of the flights out of Sydney this afternoon were running vary late because of the strong winds in Sydney and Melbourne. My son's DJ flight to Melbourne was delayed by more than one and a half hours however he was lucky to get on the earlier flight. Most flights were operating from Runway 25 in the late afternoon when I was there.

Some of the ACARS transmissions...

Not a fun day. Not a fun day at all.

Some regionals were copping up to an hour and a half CTMS holding on the ground, followed by an hour doing laps of Bindook. Schedule? What schedule??

Grahame you missed the "SI DOH EXCLAMATION MARK" from VXD...

Leaving just runway always causes problems but anyone down at Krispy Kreme yesterday would have been entertained!

OFf topic, anyone know why there is a FJ 747 at the INTL Freight terminal at the moment?

Adelaide copped this weather earlier...I thought 38 kts was stiff, but the TV showed that the weather in Melbourne was much worse.

Hi,

A sign of serious problems to come when they close runway 25 at Sydney for maintenance. The westerly wind gets alot stronger than that of yesterday and when it happens (and it will many times during July to September) expect major delays.

I was booked on a 1pm departure from Melbourne yesterday and we finally departed at 6.20pm on VH-EBV, flown down to Melbourne to help "sort out the mess". The first and second flights that I was allocated were cancelled and then VH-ZXB went u/s due to a tech issue and ended up on a B747 service. A long day at Tulla

It just means that other airports will have to prepare for diversions, and lots of them!

More information on the RESA upgrade can be found here http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/SACL...ty/default.htm

Have a look at Chapter 3 for details proposed for the closure of Rwy 07/25.
