Default Sydney Airport - Only One Runway Operating due to heavy winds

Sydney Airport is currently under single runway operations due to high winds, which is likely to impact flights throughout the day. Travellers are please advised to check with their airline for status updates.

Some big aircraft travelling long distances departed 25 including Qantas qf11 a380 & Air Canada ac34 777. Gotta love those big westerlies!

Imagine if 07/25 was closed in these conditions, like it was many years ago!

SYDNEY (YSSY)
TAF YSSY 270504Z 2706/2812
26022G35KT CAVOK

ATIS YSSY L 270625
RWY: 25
WIND: 260/20-30
XW MAX 12 KTS, RWY 25.
XW MAX 30 KTS, RWY 34

Winds gusting to 35kts were the order of the day in Sydney yesterday, so it's was Runway 25 Ops all day under a beautiful blue sky. Even VH-OQD operating
QF11 to LAX departed on RW25, and there wasn't much room left at the far end. The queue on Taxiway Golf extended around the corner onto Charlie at times,
and some Internationals were taxiing via Alpha 1. In the afternoon we had two Atlas B744 Freighters with consecutive Registrations N492MC and N493MC,
closely following each other down to Runway 25. A couple of Internationals chose to try Runway 34L, but only two the American B777-300ER and a couple of
Asian carriers.

All the ground shots are through the new electric wire fence.

Thanks Grahame - a nice set of shots.

When I see this I'm always reminded of a certain aviation website which uses a QF taking off from 25 as its masthead.

Nice photos Grahame

Was on a flight arriving from Launceston which was delayed due runway closures for an hour. Not rough at all approaching Sydney and a very smooth landing. That Air Canada B777 was waiting to line up as we came over the threshold.

Thanks for sharing your photos which I appreciate
