Smile I am visiting - YSSY Traffic info please

Hi Everyone !!!

i will come in Sydney (from Italy) from the 28th of july to the 04th of august.
One afternoon of these days i want to come spotting to YSSY, so, i want to ask you some info:

_ What is the best day for spotting during the week? (about traffic, runway, ecc...)
_ is it possible to know the runway in use beforehand?

I will probably go to the "International Terminal Observation Deck" or to the "Beach Spotting point".

Thank You Very Much for your info
Dan

Hi Dan

You might like to check either of these sites to see the traffic

http://www.sydneyairport.com.au/flig...D&searchType=I

http://flightaware.com/live/airport/YSSY

Unless there is a strong westerly wind you will find the main runway is in use. The International carriers tend to depart Sydney from about 2pm onwards. The International Terminal is good for 16R arrivals, as you have the city skyline behind the arriving aircraft.
The Beach is better for movements in either direction, so good for arrivals and departures.

Let me know when you get here and if there is time I will come over and say hi.

Cheers
Mark

There's nearly always a milk crate or two there that people have brought along that you could use instead of a ladder. Sheps Mound under the Tower is high enough that you won't need any ladder

To get close up you would need a step ladder, but with 70-300mm you can shoot from the car park without a problem.

Yes the 70-300 can shoot from the car park. If you lens is small enough it can fit through the hole of the fence. But 70mm isn't wide enough for some aircraft if you want to take the whole aircraft at the fence. And if you are bringing a ladder remember 3Metres behind the fence.
