A: Yes. Sydney Airport recognises the importance of
regional aviation to regional communities and people
living in remote parts of NSW. The proposal will
guarantee ongoing access by regional airlines to Sydney
Airport. In fact, the proposal will improve the facilities
provided for regional passengers because, for the first
time, regional passengers will have simple transfers to
other connecting international or domestic flights.

Guy the centralisation of security was a farse designed to funnel passengers through the main duty free shop. Having it where it is now makes it no harder to isolate the two halves of the existing terminal. In fact if you wanted to turn the current western pier, mostly used by Star carriers, Emirates etc it would be dead easy. The walkway connection the 'central' security to the pier could be blocked and the old entrance re-opened. For arrivals again just block the connection between the two arrival halls.

Of course to do this a new facility for Qantas/OneWorld needs to be built, though should be easy too utilising the space occupied by the Qantas maintenance base.

Looks pretty good, but I agree there will need to be a total rethink on the road traffic plan for T1/T2 area.

There also wasn't much shown of the GA/Corporare area. I thought the original plan was to relocate that to the area between the runways where the QF hangars are going?

They'll also need to find some way to satisfy the rental car agencies, bus companies and caterers that have recently built new facilities on the road up the tower/mound, although I suspect there might be space across Qantas Dr and the rail line along the canal which I think Qantas currently owns/leases.

So other than obviously the Mound, what other spotting areas will be affected?

Alexander I think you will find the plan is only in concept stage, so far too early to say what will or won't be effected, especially little details such as the observation deck.

I'm guessing the plan for the screening processes in each terminal would be similar to OOL...initial security screening point for both domestic and international flights and then a secondary screening point for all international flights.

Again it is way too early to know how they are going to segregate or screen passengers. Concept people concept, not detailed plan.

I wonder who is paying for this? I guess the passengers and car park users. The long term park for domestic will be useless when changes made

You have got to be kidding. Is such a joke at present & a huge mess, that no one wants to connect at SYD !!!

Best thing that could happen to SYD airport would be to demolish the whole place & start again.

As that's not going to happen, a totally new airport needs to be fast tracked, but no government has any money left.

So if read it correctly, fine if you are transferring from one alliance to same, but what if you have to change alliances.

I've never used the train to go from 1 terminal to another but surely, the train lines could be used for fast transfers.

Surely small carriages or trains could run backwards & forwards every 2 minutes, withotu greatly affecting existing train schedule.

How many lines are there between dom & int teminals ?

Need some german efficiency here !!!
