I'd say it landed in Melbourne going by the altitude and end time (last received transmission).

Looking at the FlightRadar24 (thanks to MLAT) play back, it did head to Melbourne.

There was a bird strike on Runway 16R this afternoon, at the Alpha 3 intersection. Car-3 retrieved the carcase, a small swallow, then did a full runway inspection when there was a gap in the traffic. ATC thought that there may have been other FOD on the Runway. Nothing sighted by Car-3.

On the LiveATC archive for Sydney Tower at 15:41sec the Controller mentions a possible bird strike - VH-VNP operating TT259 was the last aircraft to depart on Runway 16R. There are then conversations with CAR-3 at the end of this archive and into the next archive.

LiveATC Archive

Mathematically:- Bird Strike + Small Swallow = Surface Area

17:03L Looks to be a problem with REX133, have not picked up on the nature of the problem, however they have passed on Pax On Board (22) to ATC and are running through the checklists before making an approach where they will stop on the runway. ATC also mentioned problems with the aircraft's Mode C transmissions.

17:05L ATC have started to give REX133 vectors for an approach.

17:09L The REX crew are doing a manual gear extension, so undercarriage problems.

17:11L Now on an 8 mile final for Runway 07.

17:13L ATC advised REX133 to run through to east of Charlie if the landing gear is ok, and they will then stop on the runway.

17:17 Tender-4 is now at the Runway 07 / Charlie intersections, and Tender-2 has been cleared to cross Runway 34L. ATC asked REX133 to change frequency to 130.0 to talk with the fire tenders. Assuming a safe landing, and now just assessing the situation with the undercarriage.

17:22L Tender-3 is now sitting at the Delta intersection on Runway 07.

17:25L Tender-3 and Tender-4 are proceeding to QF Domestic on Charlie, returning to the Fire Station.

17:27L Ground crews are going to tow REX133 along the runway to G4 and Bay 94.

17:32L Looks like REX133 was being operated by VH-RXX Moruya-Sydney.

17:37 Car-2 and Car-3 are inspecting Runway 07 and have checked the full length.

Does anyone know if the passengers left the aircraft on the runway, or after it was towed to Bay 94 ?

I say that it was meant to land at Moruya but the issue arose.

RAN Sea King N24-008 was in Wagga today, landing at The Riverina Anglican College (TRAC).

B-8195 GLEX is on route to SYD from KNX (Kununurra).
