Default Singapore Airlines introducing High-Density Business Class A380 configuration

Evening all,

Quote:
Singapore Airlines starting June 2011 is introducing 2nd configuration type for its Airbus A380 aircraft, which sees Business Class occupies entire upper deck. The new configuration, is coded “A8E” internally, seats 407, a reduction from current 471. The Star Alliance member will also become the 2nd carrier to see upper deck A380 exclusively used for Business Class, after Korean Air (which also have overall capacity standing at 407)
Comparison between the new configuration (A8E), planned operation and existing A380 configuration (A8A/A8B) as follows:

Lower Deck for both A8A/A8B and A8E remains identical
Suite Class Row 1 – 4 (12 Seats)
Economy Class Row 31 – 63 (311 Seats)

Upper Deck on existing A380 configuration (A8A/A8B)
Business Class Row 11 – 27 (60 Seats)
Economy Class Row 71 – 83 (88 Seats)

Upper Deck on new A380 configuration (A8E)
Business Class Row 11 – 27, 91 – 96 (84 Seats)

As of 20MAY11, A8E configuration is to be assigned on following, however they’re subject to change:

Singapore – Sydney SQ221/212 eff 20JUN11 (21JUN11 from SYD

Higher Density usually means more seats in the same space?

BA call their 747s with more J sets 'Hi-J' aircraft (higher J count), but this is not to do with density. Emirates would refer to an aircraft with more J sets a 'Low Denisty' version. I tend to agree.

Argh... one of the best things about SQ A380s is the small Y cabin at the rear of the upper deck.

Gareth,

Your right- OP mistake.. its lower density...onto the point though- good news for frequent J class travellers- it should feel more isolated in a way having the top deck all J... bad news for Y customers- i know alot including myself who went on the SQ380 just to go upper deck Y, the seats were great.

It appears this new config'd A380 will start on SQ221-212 which is a 0600 arrival and 0800 departure to and from Sydney.

At this stage your flight SQ231 appears the normal config'd A380.

Deployment of the A8E on SQ221/212 is on a temporary basis.

I had never thought about the benefits of the Y cabin on the upper deck of the SQ A380, until the Doyen of Travel, Duke of Perff Luke Chittock, gave me the heads up shortly before returning from a summer sojourn in the Greek Isles.

Upon checking-in, a few sweet words to the rosy-cheeked English lass behind the counter saw my bland lower-deck pre-assigned seating changed to 81C, in her words, "the best seat in the house".

I haven't had a better flying experience.

My partner and I have had a preference for 79 A/C or H/K but on our last trip we couldnt get them and opted for 83D/G - the very last pair in the middle. A bit of extra legroom, Galley right behind, and no problem being adjacent to the toilets. We wont be happy to score an A8E layout.
