Partner Update - Woolworths Limited
Woolworths to join Qantas Frequent Flyer program
From Check-out to Check-in

Qantas Frequent Flyer and Woolworths have today announced an alliance that will take your membership to a new level.

From mid-2009, you'll be able to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points when shopping for groceries, fuel, packaged liquor, general merchandise or consumer electronics at a participating Woolworths group business. Details of how this will operate are being finalised over the coming months and will be communicated soon.

With this new alliance you'll be able to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points from the leading Australian providers of airline, credit card and retailing services.

Read the press release announcing the alliance with Woolworths.

We look forward to providing more details of this exciting alliance in 2009.

Double-Dip
Plus, you could double-dip at the check-out by using an eligible credit or charge card that earns Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Remember, 31 March 2009 is the deadline for transferring points to Qantas Frequent Flyer from some card programs. Visit qantas.com/cards for more information.

It's really surprising to see an Airline need to alliance with a Supermarket DIRECTLY! If that is $5 for 1 QF FF Points, then a $25000 consumption would be enough to upgrade your Y Class seat to J Class! Even less if the conversion rate is lower!

Think QF's FF is really in a tense competition with DJ's Velocity.

Furthermore, can we forsee a Velocity x Flybuys in our NEAR future? Then we can redeem a free DJ ticket as we buy stuff at Coles and K-Mart?

Be warned here. if you thought QF didn't do anything unless there is a buck in it, then Woolworths will take this to a whole new level... and you do know who'll be paying for it?

You don't want to get between Woollies and a bucket of cash, you'll be killed in the rush!

The Way I see it, is that you will be paying for it when you go to woolies, so you might as well sign up and get the points.

So what are you saying Mike? That Woolies and Qantas are commercial companies who are in business to make money? If so what a revelation!

This just brings Woolies into line with the Rental Car companies, Hotels etc, where you earn points when you spend with them by quoting your QFF Number at the time you pay. Where Coles now ask "Do you have Flybuys", the Woolies checkout operator will probably ask "Do you have a QFF Card".

On the other side, you will probably be able to redeem QFF points for a Woolies shopping Voucher.

True, but Woollies in articular are exceptionally good (and good on them) at taking every opportunity at whatever cost to whoever they can get away with. See the post on the fuel for example

I personally choose to spend my money with others, more independent if possible.
