It looks as though VH-YIY as VA9944 is now heading non-stop to BNE, a total flight of 8 hours 53 minutes following maintenance in HKG. It has no payload but must have max fuel load to fly that long a sector in a B738.

5500nm is the max ferry range, so could have gone to AKL

Not correct Mark. VA 738s can only carry a little over 20T of fuel. The 5500nm is predicated on over 30T of fuel which would therefore require ferry tanks to be installed. Something VA do not do.

HKG to BNE nonstop is one hell of a journey in standard configuration!

I stand corrected, wasn’t aware they were limited to 20T

It also looks as though VH-YIZ is due to return to service tomorrow 24/2/21 being scheduled to operate two return MEL-SYD-MEL flights.
