Default Prepare for take-off ... and landing: world's shortest air route

Full Article: http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-...115-2cql6.html

Quote:
A Scottish airline has won a contract to operate the world's shortest flight, on a route in the Orkney Islands where journeys can last as little as 47 seconds.
The regional airline Loganair will continue to operate flights between Westray and Papa Westray islands, fending off competition from two rival operators.
The distance between the two locations stands at slightly more than a mile (1.6km) and can be travelled in as little as 47 seconds depending on the direction of the wind

I'm interested in hearing what the shortest passenger flight members of this board have taken, both the route and the airline, and aircraft type if possible.

Inspired by Brandon's trip report stating a 12 minute flight between St Marteen and St Barths, with a 9 minute flight on the return on a Winair DCH6, I remembered this post so I thought I'd resurrect it.

I came close to Brandon recently, with a 10 minute flight on an E190 between Burgas and Varna on Bulgaria Air. My previous best was a 23 minute flight between Sydney and Canberra a few years back on a Qantas 734.

Looking forward to hearing from some of you.

Mine was about 20 minutes, from NTL to SYD in a 747-400 (yes, a 747-400!!!!!!). Well, I was coming back from HKG and due to bad weather in SYD, my flight diverted to NTL. We were there for almost 4 hours and made it onto the news that evening. The cabin manager told us not to bother getting out of our seats or taking off our seat belts due to the short duration of the flight.

Mine was in 2006 or 2007 Lindeman Island to Hamilton Island on board VH-HAM a Cessna 204 caravan with floats on it. Flight time was about 7 minutes.

Cheers

M

It was in 1987, between Miami & Ft Lauderdale on.......a United Airlines 727-200. Took about 8 minutes. I joined the flight in Denver, so had a long leg followed by a super short leg !

In 1980 I flew on a DL511 B727 from Melbourne FL, USA to Orlando FL, USA.

Distance was under 100k on a near empty B727. More crew than passengers.

I can't remember the exact flight time but it was fast.

I was flying from New Orleans to Orlando (Nasa Space Centre).

Around 20 years ago I remember a 13 minute flight between Edmonton International and what was then called Edmonton municipal - it came at the end of a flight from LAX and apparently it was justified by the better plane utilisation they got by servicing both airports. No idea if that last leg still operates!

I vaguely recall reading about a ferry flight from La Guardia to JFK. I vaguely remember a 22 departure with a left turn onto a 13L arrival.
