Why shouldn't the rest of Asia miss out on the Jetstar Experience

JETSTAR'S new boss has ambitious expansion plans that will see the low-cost carrier further expand in Asia and introduce Boeing 787 operations from bases outside Australia.

In contrast to the fear and gloom sweeping much of the industry, Bruce Buchanan sees a bright future for the Qantas offshoot.

"I think it's a great opportunity to be taking over the business at this point in time," Buchanan said in a wide-ranging interview with The Australian this week.

"People look at the uncertainty in the market but I very much look at the opportunity that Jetstar has. And I think there are few organisations and operations that have been as successful during such tumultuous times.

"If you look at profitability over the past few years and ... what we've achieved during massive growth and start-up phases, I think the world's our oyster in terms of what we can achieve going forward."
