Do Planes Need Pilots?

When news hit on March 24th, 2015 that a Germanwings Airbus A320 had crashed in the French Alps, no one could have guessed the cause.

The co-pilot, 28-yr-old Andreas Lubitz, had deliberately flown the plane into the side of a mountain to kill himself and the other 149 people on board.

It was a terrifying act that triggered questions about the safety of air travel and the reliability of pilot testing.
