Does anyone know whether it is possible to see the Blackhawks from outside the base when these are flying?
Cheers,
Jonathan

Access to the base would be restricted. I live at Glenfield and they often fly over and also towards Miller Tafe College ( Hoxton Park Road).
Also fly at night sometimes without lights.
They have a distinctive sound.
I am not aware how you can access the tiemsthat they fly

Geoff

Late 1970's From Memory: I helped my cousin's friend attempt the first flight of the man powered aircraft he built at home near Bankstown Airport. We were on the Holesworthy runway before sunrise for the best conditions, and the attempt became a fast taxi without leaving the ground. This test run identified a number of changes that would be required for the aircraft to achieve flight.

It's only been home to a permanent detachment since 2006, when the 171st moved 18 birds there to support special ops, specifically the SAS and the 2nd Commando Regiment (formerly 4RAR (CDO)). The Blackhawks will be there until 2025, as the Taipans (MRH90s) are not up to the job, ironically they are not far from their birth place being HDH at Bankstown. I was lucky to be at Bankstown when they were being built, and they frequently buzzed the tower, and took us for rides.

I would doubt you would get a look under any circumstances.
