Sounds like you were very lucky to get back to Bankstown Russell, I saw the RFS backburning between Terry Hills and Forestville on my way home from Bankstown, and it was a hugh plume of smoke. They actually closed the Wakehurst Parkway later in the afternoon because of poor visibility.

While I was talking to the Agusta 139 pilot they changed from Runway 29 to 11, and we saw a C150 approach, float along the runway at 20ft for most of its length, and then climb out. The wind was still variable and it looked like he got a good puff of tailwind on short final.

The Nanchang also arrived then and rolled through the full length, the following Navajo had to go around, probably "Not Happy Jan".

Sure was lucky. It made me see why CASA requires the 2 hrs minimum instrument time prior to GFPT. I was definitely relying on instruments for most of the arrival/approach as well as the amazing guidance of my instructor.

Hi All,

Great photos, i work at YSBK, it is so much quieter now than 20 years ago, so many aircraft aren't there anymore....

Anyhow, here are the links to more details about each aircraft.

VH-MVY

VH-WIO

VH-YUP

VH-CWS

VH-SSV

VH-ILW

VH-FCF

VH-HYJ

N28065

VH-TGI

VH-PHW

VH-SYV

Here is a link to the list of AU M-18's, 24 are A models, the last 10 at straight 18's and a couple of B's.

It also made me think of the late Caribou's, i was involved when they were working out how to put turbines in them, but they realized due to the CoG issues the nacelles would be 3 foot longer and the tail 6 foot longer...... would have looked extremely weird....

They dropped the idea, not because of the stretch, but the airframe couldn't handle a change from low frequency vibrations to high from the change to turbines......

Cheers

Darrin

The M18 should be a M18T Dromader, The Piston radial is a copy of the wright cyclone 1820 which powers the Ansett DC-3 VH-ABR

As for the DC-3 it has been purchased by a guy in Broome W.A. and is in for some maintenance at Winryne. Anyone able to go and have a chat to the boys there and find out would be good.

As for the Conversion with the Bou, that is why there is the DHC-5 Buffalo.

Hey Grahame, a little late to the party 🤣
Great shots as always! It is fascinating to see how the airport has changed over time and also how much is still the same!

Thanks Graham. I had a great time at West Sale flying in a Nanchang CJ-6 with Combat Flights Gippsland (link here.

An amazing time on a very stable platform. Got the video to prove it!!
