Hi Nigel

I am a very irregular visitor to YSSY, but I will toss my hat into the ring, and suggest it may have been Northwest 742 N623US on 21-7-2008.

I well stand to be corrected, of course.

Cheers John

Thanks gents.

I was pretty sure N623US was one of, if not the last, but before the Facebook/Instagram/Twitter post was made I thought I'd throw it out here for discussion.

So far there's been no challenges to suggest a later movement.

Cheers

The last QF B742 service was VH-EBS on 05/01/2003.

(Could be corrected)

Do you know if JAL were still running the B742 after that date Greg? I've got a feeling they might have been.

JAL flew B747 classics up to 2009.

Not sure when 200's finished.

From Airline World

Quote:
Decommissioning the Group’s remaining 6 747 Classics – of which the earliest was delivered in November 1983, attests to the Group’s steady progress towards
downsizing its fleet and operating more fuel-efficient aircraft such as Boeing 777. The Boeing 747-300 was the only airplane in Japan Airlines’ fleet that carried
all three liveries over the years. The last two -300s in the fleet have the registration numbers: JA812J and JA8166.
Here is JA812J departing Narita on 08/05/2004, one of the last two JAL B747 Classics

Classic Boeing 747-300 JA8182 on final for Runway 16R at Sydney airport on 29/01/2005

And Qantas were still operating the 1986 build B747-300 VH-EBW intil 11/08/2010 - seen here at Sydney Airport on 29/01/2006
