QF 767-300ER Retirement Plan

Hi All,

With the impending departures of some of the B767-300ER's, I thought I would start this topic.

First one to go - VH-ZXF (Serial 25203)
Listed on Boeing website For Sale - June 2013.

VHZXA has already left in ZX rego block... Does anyone have the complete list of departures?

Sarah C 12th April 2013 10:31 AM

Already gone:

ZXA
ZXB (both 2013)

And the GE aircraft:
OGA
OGB
OGC
OGD
OGE
OGF

Bringing this old topic up,

ZXF is parked inside a hanger around the back of the Jetbase and had its Roo painted over some days ago and Qantas titles removed over night last night. Couldn't be too far before it ferries out.

Sarah C 8th June 2013 05:12 PM

I believe it departs this Monday - I assume in the morning.

Rory Delaney 12th June 2013 10:19 AM

I'm almost certain that I saw it still parked at the Jetbase this morning.

Kent Broadhead 12th June 2013 10:28 AM

It was parked there Monday PM as well, but wasn't the only blank tail 767 - unless the other was the freighter (I was on the T1 deck, so obscured view)

Hey Kent,

Confirmed EFR was at the Jetbase then too behind the blast fence.

Kent Broadhead 12th June 2013 11:31 AM

Cheers Tim!

Sarah C 12th June 2013 12:34 PM

The 734 (TJJ) was the one going on Monday, I got the two confused.

I don't have any information on ZXF's departure but can confirm it still hasn't moved from the Jetbase.

Shayne G 29th June 2013 09:55 AM

VH-ZXF is leaving tomorrow afternoon for Shanghai (PVG) around 3:15pm.

:(

Rowan McKeever 29th June 2013 01:05 PM

PVG?? New life perhaps? One of the Chinese carriers has RR engines 767s...

Greg Hyde 29th June 2013 02:26 PM

end of financial year special maybe ?

Nigel C 13th July 2013 08:02 PM

ZXD has had all the titles stripped off it.

Jayden Laing 16th July 2013 06:41 PM

Just found this whilst searching for ZXD's new owner!

http://www.planespotters.net/Airline/AerSale-Inc

VH-ZXA is now N489AS
VH-ZXB is now N283AS

Both are listed as stored.

Jamie D 16th July 2013 07:37 PM

ZXD is currently enroute to PVG, departed about 4 this afternoon

I was talking to the FO on my MEL-SYD flight over the weekend and he mentioned the remaining 3 ex-BA 763s are due to be retired by September/October this year and the rest of the fleet will be retired slowly after the ex-BA birds are gone.

By the end of 2014, the 763 fleet is expected to be down to 5.

Kent Broadhead 25th July 2013 08:19 AM

It all depends on 787 deliveries though doesn't it, with JQ 332s to replace the 763s?

Noel White 26th July 2013 07:05 PM

Son-in-law flew MEL-SYD QFA490 last night on VH-ZXC which arrived at 21:25 and after landing, Captain announced that this was the last Qantas commercial flight to be flown by this aircraft.

Cheers,

Noel

Qantas 767 VH-ZXC is leaving tomorrow morning at 7am as 'QF6027' for VCV via HNL after being delayed from it's planned departure last week.

Will miss ZXC a little more then the rest, was my favourite Roller 767.

Sarah C 12th August 2013 07:49 AM

VH-ZXC has just departed for HNL as QF6027

Greg Hyde 30th August 2013 02:44 PM

Looks like VH-ZXC has had its last flight.

It was deleted from the Aus Reg on 21/08/13 with the comment "parted out"

Julian L 29th October 2013 01:27 PM

Does anyone know when the last 2 ex-BA 763's are leaving. It appears that contrary to a previous post I will be flying an ex-BA 763 in Mid November according to the seat map.

VH-ZXG minus regos & roo today.

Sarah C 21st November 2013 05:03 AM

VH-OGV is departing for the desert on Friday at around 3pm.

Tom PER 21st November 2013 08:33 PM

Wow very sad OGV is only 13 years old and a relatively late build B763, I find it hard to believe this one won't find a new home.

Flew on her BNE-PER in March and she was in great shape.

Wonder if they'll remove the refurbished iPad friendly seats before she departs.

Does the arrival of -VKA mean -EBQ/R will be transferred across to QF from J*?

Steve S... 2 22nd November 2013 08:28 AM

Wow what an odd airline retiring the youngest 763 and with a new interior, ahead of 23 year old 763's - even ahead of ZXE with an old interior.

I guess it is based on maintenance requirements maybe a D check even?

Zac M 22nd November 2013 09:02 AM

It could be anything really, lightning strike causing major damage, engine needing overhaul, corrosion, the possibilities are endless.

I would however hope that if they plan on keeping OGP long term they transplant the Q-Streaming at the very least.

Exactly what I was thinking!

Greg Hyde 22nd November 2013 09:59 AM

Also don't forget the economics of flying an aircraft type: FUEL, leasing costs, fleet standardisation (less engineers), potential buyers ...

JamesL 22nd November 2013 01:30 PM

But almost every other operator is now enjoying the fuel savings of the wingletted aircraft but yet QF, as reactive as ever has chosen not to get them...hmmm, so much for a fuel saving idea...

Rowan McKeever 22nd November 2013 01:49 PM

James I think the thing for QF is the 767s weren't planned to remain in the fleet long enough to make back the outlay for the winglets. They were meant to be gone some years ago.

Greg Hyde 22nd November 2013 02:35 PM

Fuel also relates to performance of GE (QF) vs RR (ex. BA).

Isn't this also caused by the late delivery of the 787's.

If the 787's had been delivered on time the A330/B787 would of probably already replaced the existing 767's.

David Heath 23rd November 2013 06:55 AM

I think for the short haul flights that the QF 767 are mainly used the winglets would have just added weight with not much benefit. So for that reason I would've never expected Qantas to buy them. I was trying to find the charts that show that. But anyway, medium-long haul is where the numbers start makings sense (ie. AirNZ etc).

Ian Gains 23rd November 2013 12:42 PM

I think that you are correct, David. I've seen winglets on 767-300ER's of Air New Zealand, American Airlines, Delta, Hawaiian, Condor & all of these airlines have 7-10 hr sectors that will be more efficiently operated with winglets.

Greg Hyde 23rd November 2013 02:48 PM

OGV did Sydney to Victorville direct with flight time of 13:51

Not bad for an old girl

Its a waste of time for the current passenger fleet given cost, 4 week installation timeframe to save 5%, especially given the lower hours the fleet are running, different story for the freighter.

Sarah C 5th December 2013 07:42 AM

The last of the Rollers has out of service and departing on Tuesday morning at this stage

Erik H. Bakke 5th December 2013 11:49 AM

I'll miss that whining sound from the RR 767s...

David Heath 5th December 2013 03:54 PM

-OGV is a 2000 build... "newish" in terms of the global 767 fleet :)
