Mobile Phone enabled Qantas aircraft

Hi all,

Just wondering which of the aircraft in the QF fleet are now enabled with a mobile phone PicoCell so you can text and check your email. The trial started in April 2007, with just 1 aircraft, but hopefully more should be used now?

Cheers

Carsten

I flew on the 767 last year from SYD-PER, pretty sure it was VH-OGI, sending them is quite expensive compared to normal SMS fees.

yeh it goes through a satellite to norway, then onto the respective mobile networks.

There was a good article in May's Australian Aviation.

The trial ended in January and resume "late 2008" so expect the aircraft to have the technology in the last quarter. OGI was the aircraft but I don't think you can use your mobiles on it currently.
