Qantas partner Air Vanuatu is upgrading its Brisbane flights with an all-new business class cabin aboard a factory-fresh Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

From July 8 2020, the airline’s Brisbane-Port Vila route switches over to the A220, offering eight business class seats in a typical 2-2 layout, which recline and come equipped with extendable legrests. AC and USB power outlets are also provided for each passenger.

These sit ahead of 125 economy class seats arranged in a 2-3 layout: perfect for pairs travelling together on one side, and parents with children on the other.

Brisbane will be the first destination in Australia to adopt the A220, which replaces a leased Nauru Airlines Boeing 737-300 as currently operates the route on behalf of Air Vanuatu. On these jets, business class represents a widened economy-style seat, similar to British Airways’ former Club Europe experience on short distance flights.

“We’re excited for our passengers to experience the A220’s spacious cabin, wide seats, large windows and generous overhead bin space as they travel to the beautiful islands of Vanuatu,” said Air Vanuatu CEO Derek Nice.

Brisbane-Vanuatu flights get a boost

Along with the new aircraft, flights between Brisbane and Port Vila will also climb from three to four return services each week from July 8 2020.

The airline’s direct Brisbane-Espiritu Santo (Luganville) route will also switch to the A220 aircraft from July.

“With the expansion of flights between Brisbane and Port Vila, one of the Pacific’s best and nearest destinations, we hope to see many more Queenslanders ‘answer the call’ of Vanuatu,” adds Jim Parashos, Executive General Manager Aviation Development & Partnerships at Brisbane Airport Corporation.

Air Vanuatu will also take delivery of the Airbus A220-100 – similar yet shorter than the A220-300, still equipped with business class but with 25 fewer seats in economy class – in November 2020.

In Australia, Air Vanuatu flies between Sydney and Port Vila as well, plus Melbourne-Port Vila, which launched in July 2019.
