Default QF63/64 No more First Class

QF apparently announced that from 1 October 2012,First Class will be no more on the QF63/64 SYD-JNB-SYD rotation with the introduction of Boeing 747-400 with A380 style configuration to the service (58J/36W/270Y)

Seems those 744s will be rather busy....

Will that leave Singapore, London and Los Angeles as the only destinations with first class?

Of course with Singapore becoming Dubai in April.

Cheers

What about Hong Kong(A380 service), and what 744's are used for the Tokyo run?

Looks like the 9 upgraded B744s will be used on:

QF107/QF108 SYD-LAX-JFK-LAX-SYD
QF015/QF016 BNE-LAX-BNE
QF63/QF64 SYD-JNB-SYD
QF7/QF8 SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD
QF27/28 SYD-SCL-SYD

Previously the BNE-SIN-BNE was listed as a upgraded B744 route looks like it will be replaced by JNB as the BNE-SIN-BNE will no doubt revert to a A330 operations once SIN-LHR services are moved to DXB.

From April 2013 only LAX, LHR, DXB, and HKG will see first class.

HKG will still have first on A380 operated services. NRT will continue to use the older style 3 class B744s for the time being.

Thanks

That's a great overview Brad, thanks. What is FRA run on at the moment? Same as NRT? Thanks, Rowan

Rowan, the FRA rotation mainly uses the older 3 class 744s I.e. OJC,OJE,OJI, and OJJ and they seem to do NRT a fair bit as well.

I believe that these older style 3 class 744s will also be used on JNB because they also have no First Class, just as they have been seen a fair bit on the 107/108 of late when an A380 style 744 has not been available.

Just my thoughts

Jim

Cheers Jim, pretty much as I thought.

Out of curiosity, could QF operate QF63/64 with an A380 tomorrow if they needed to as an equipment sub? As in, do they have access to A380 capable facilities in JNB?

Rowan, there would be no probes with runways at JNB,as I think they actually have one that is 59m wide from memory, but I can't be sure about the terminal and ramp facilities.
I think that may be another issue, but I could be wrong.

Cheers

Jim

I could be wrong, but from recalling some older posts from airlineroute.net, don't JNB have regular A380 flights from Paris on AF and Dubai on EK? If so, QF would be able to use their A380 if needed without infrastructure concerns at JNB.

Thanks Jim & Justin. Add to that the LH service from FRA. I guess, being totally unfamiliar with JNB, I was wondering whether it's all set up as one (international) terminal so that any airline can use the A380 gates or if it's more like, say, LHR where there may not be A380 gates where QF operates.

Cheers, R
