Was YSSY ever formally known as 'Mascot Airport'?
I have noticed that a lot of older Sydney residents refer to YSSY as 'Mascot Airport'. Was it ever formally known by that name, or was it simply a name that developed due to the airport's proximity to the suburb of Mascot?

Cannot confirm the title Mascot Airport Robbie. There was a book published many years ago called "Bullocks to Boeings" (can't remember author's name) which detailed the history of Mascot Aerodrome. I must have loaned the book to somebody and it hasn't been returned.
You are right about older Sydney siders calling it Mascot Airport. However, my parents always referred it to Mascot Aerodrome and that's how it is shown in the reprint of the 1934 edition of Gregory's Street Directory. During my working time at the airport I used KSA short for Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.

The yssy site itself confirms it was officially declared the “Mascot Aerodrome” in 1920, changing to KSA in 1936. https://www.sydneyairport.com.au/cor...nment/heritage Quote:
