Question - Frequent Flyer Points 'reward seats'?

Hi there,

Just a quick question, please excuse my ignorance.

Regarding both Virgin Velocity and Qantas Frequent Flyer programs:
When travelling on a 'reward seat' flight, do you still earn points for that particular flight or is there catch with these bookings whereby no points are accrued on a reward flight?
