REX OPPOSES PROPOSAL TO MANDATE MINIMUM
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR AIRLINE PILOTS


Regional Express (Rex) is concerned over recent suggestions requiring all pilots engaged in airline operations in Australia to have a minimum of 1500 hours flying time as suggested in a current Senate enquiry into pilot training.

The move follows a similar proposal in the United States which was a knee jerk reaction to a fatal airline accident. Ironically, the accident in question involved two experienced pilots with well over 2000 hours of flight experience each.

Sorry Mods, but while PPRuNe may not always be a reliable source of information or discussion, the comments from professionals in the industry are less than favourable towards said company.

The Senate inquiry that is commencing shortly, has a lot of damning submissions from professional pilots within the industry, that does not sit in favour of several local airlines.

While Mr Davis has a vested interest in trying to shoot down this inquiry, my personal opinion is to advise that until the inquiry is complete, any story you see from airline execs in a negative regard to the inquiry, take with a grain of salt.

The Senate inquiry has the potential to be one of the biggest steps forward in recent Australian Aviation Industry history, with some of the positives being increased airline safety and better pay and working conditions for Australian pilots.

While it's not a very well known fact publicly around Australia, pilot pay and conditions are in a very big downward spiral. The days of high pay and conditions are very fast disappearing, and are now at the point where it's becoming a very unattractive career option.

That's rather amusing, seeing as though once a submission has been forwarded to the Senate Committee, it's illegal to release the document to anyone else. Only the Senate Committee can do that.

Mick, that is going for all sectors of aviation. Pilots, Engineers, Flight attendants, all in a downward spiral, the only people who seem to be doing ok are the rampies.
