Nigel,
You have a sadistic hidden streak ..... but hell, I can just imagine the faces on the workers! |

Perth's runway 06/24 is 2163 metres. Can all transcontinental flights use this runway and fly non stop to the east coast?
Are there now taxiways to both the 06/24 thresholds or do aircraft have to taxi via runway 21 to the 24 threshold and backtrack from J1 to get to the 06threshold. Is runway 06 used very often? Was the 763 in the photo departing from runway 21? |

James, yes 06/24 can be used by all transcontinental flights. I recently flew PER-SYD in a 332 with a 06 departure. Working at the airport I've seen a QF744 take-off from 06 heading for SYD as well as an EK 777 taking off from 24 direct to Dubai.
As for taxiways there is a taxiway (V) at the 06 threshold but is for narrowbody aircraft (737, A320) only so widebodies have to backtrack from taxiway J and use the turning node. Taxiway W which goes to the Rwy 24 threshold is generally only available to aircraft up to BAE146 and F100 size so again larger aircraft have to use the turning node and backtrack, however during the runway works taxiway W is being made available to larger aircraft. |

There is a limit on the 737-800, where some can't take a large load.
Nigel, there was several options given to the company's in regards to the runway works. The option being used was the best one. Its very interesting watching in the morning when the close 21 and go to 24. |

Is the work meant to be going on currently? I ask because the ATIS for Perth on Thursday I think it was said runways 21 and 24 for arrivals, runway 21 for departures.
