Hi Philip, Virgin don't believe in fixed IFE on their 737's and they believe the future is WiFi and BYO device.
The brand new 738's have nothing in J/Y, but 1 has in-seat power in J The refitted 738's that have Foxtel, have kept it for now in Y, but nothing in J The about to be refitted 737's that have Foxtel, have kept it for now in Y, but nothing in J Virgin have the shocking old DigiPlayers for J and have been "trialling" the Samsung Galaxy Tab in J class on one plane for months, but no news of a full rollout! An interesting strategy! |

If it was DJ1413 SYD-CNS this morning, it was VH-YVD - a few months old.
I don't like the old Virgin Blue seats, but the new Virgin Australia seats are good. I don't like Jetstar seats. Actually, I don't like aeroplane seats... |

I believe this is a result of Virgin still deciding (or working through) their IFE solution, which I believe may be a tablet (Samsung) versus seat back IFE.

Surprised to hear that zero IFE is actually deliberate policy. It certainly didn't go down well with the majority of pax. By all means OK for short flights of under 2 hours but for CNS and PER flights pax expect seme IFE.

First aircraft with wifi installed is about to start is trial. Once the trial is over fitting of the other aircraft will happen very quickly as the system can be fitted overnight. B737 will be done first and the Ejet's will be fitted early next year.

Meanwhile all those people who don't have a tablet to watch something on
& Those who want to try to eat a meal/watch TV at the same time.... |

Flew Virgin from Sydney to Gold Coast a week of so ago, and I'm sure I remember reading that Foxtel was free for flights under 2hrs and charged for flights over 2hrs. The free earphones hurt my ears after 15 minutes.
The free snack (Greek salad wrap, biscuit, mixed nuts and soft drink) with my flexi-flyer fare was welcome, but would not have been worth paying for on a normal saver fare. |

Back in December I flew ADL-MEL-ADL and Foxtel was free on both legs.
As for eating and watching TV at the same time, Virgin should consider something like Canada's WestJet if they haven't already. That type of set up would be most practical.

Did a flight BNE-MEL-BNE last month and had Foxtel free both directions.

And those who knock Virgin for going down the portable IFE, Qantas is also looking at it as are most airlines around the world. Fixed IFE is very expensive and becomes out of date very quickly.
