Australia Day F/A-18 Hornet & Hawk 127 flyover

Hi,

My brother & I made a trip into the city to watch the FA18's do a fly over at 2pm and to wait around for the Hawk 127's.

In the paper & on the Australia Day website, it said they were to happen at 2pm & at 2:30pm

But we only got to see one Hawk 127 fly over late at 2:40pm. No FA18's?

We were standing right on the Harbour, under the sails of the Opera House. Perfect view.

A lot of other people & I were wondering, what happened to the FA18's?

Low cloud might have foiled their plans - for most of the day it was below 1600ft

From one of the event organisers Williamtown was having high winds up there at the time of the F18 departure.

I'm pretty sure some did a flypast in Melbourne. We got held up high coming into Melbourne as they were orbiting to get their timing right for their run. They would have left earlier than the Sydney ones though!

The parachute drop never happened either. The authorities cleared the area around circular Quay of all marine traffic and waited about 45 min then reopened it again without any action from the skies.

Cloud base was pretty low which probably explains it.

A lot of pi$$ed off people down there.

I'm guessing it was due cloud. Wasn't windy at all yesturday.

As for the FA18's in Mel, they could have left the night before. At about 8:30pm I could hear Jets flying overhead my house.

Also at about 2:50pm there were meant to be FA18's doing a flyby at Bar Beach in Newcastle. Didn't get there so don't know if that would have went ahead. I remember looking up at about 1pm and thinking that the cloud was low so it probably wasn't worth going down to have a look.

No winds up this way on Monday at all. Quite calm
