pity the 54 students and teachers form Mosman High, who missed their connection in HK from CX110, and now have to stay overnight in HK, at CX expense

How much damage/wear do the aircraft suffer operating in conditions like that? I'd be thinking of various intakes clogging, paint abrasion and engine wear/abrasion. Just thinking back to the BA 747 that flew through the volcano over Java back in the 80's.

And also how much does it increase the detail of the ground inspections afterwards?

All the manufacturers were consulted by Qantas on the 23rd....the response was basically "are you aware there are airlines operating in the Middle East?"

Can anyone tell me if Sydney was down to single runway ops on Tuesday (06/10) at around 10:00.

I believe that when I arrived on JO771 we used 34L, but once I got over to the domestic terminal they only seemed to be using the runway just infront of the Qantas Museum (16R I believe). The United Jumbo was there for about 15mins awaiting it's turn.

While on the topic of my travels did anyone happen to photograph JO771/772 on the 18/09 (JA706J) or 06/10 (JA707J) and QF1473 (or the flight that it came in on) on the 06/10 (VH-QON)
