Default QantasLink - "Brisbane - Tamworth on the books"

The following article was posted back in September, although its interesting nevertheless:

Northern Daily Leader

Quote:
TAMWORTH is growing at a rapid pace and QantasLink has jumped aboard by introducing a brand new 72-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft to fly the Sydney to Tamworth route.

QantasLink held a luncheon in Monty’s restaurant at the Quality Hotel Powerhouse yesterday in order to thank local businesses who helped get the program up and running.

QantasLink NSW sales manager Andrew Rattle said the decision to introduce the larger aircraft simply came down to the need to meet an increase in demand.

“Tamworth is a huge growth corridor and we identified the market’s needs and have now created another 600 seats per week,” Mr Rattle said.

blah blah blah...

QantasLink continually reviews its current services and any potential changes or increases such as the introduction of other flight destinations from Tamworth, such as Brisbane, is a possibility.

“We are conscious of rising fuel costs but the Tamworth to Brisbane route has always been on the books,” Ms Alker said.
Been some time since Brisbane had air services to Tamworth (even Armidale). I remember the days when Sunshine Express operated SWM aircraft on a triangulated Brisbane - Armidale - Tamworth - Brisbane service. It's disappointing another carrier did not step in and introduce flights, however there's probably higher priorities..

Here's hoping services come to fruition

Cheers

Shame they haven't thought about putting a Dash on the Brisy - Port Mac route.

Brindabella Airlines will as of this weekend introduce the much larger Jetstream 41 (30 seats with a FA) on its weekend Brisbane-Tamworth services. The double-daily weekday services will continue to be operated by Metros.

During the recent Country Music Festival, FQ were operating 3 services a day on select days.

Certainly good to see regional routes going from strength to strength!

Cheers
