Sam,

you raise a fair point- but you must admit in Indonesia Garuda is the best of probably the worst collection of airlines situated anywhere in the world.

What Michael posts above is worrying but not safety critical however the recent incidents of GA in Perth as well as the overflying Sydney flight amongst others are extremely concerning.

One does wonder who flies them still when they are banned in so many countries and their reputation certainly not a proud one!

Garuda's poor safety standards keep it on the EU banned list, restricting it from flying anywhere in the European Union. http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air-ban/list_en.htm Australia is their only destination outside Asia

I dont mean to bring this topic up again but can someone allude to the culminating reasons why Garuda is still allowed to fly to Australia.

I think it was something along the lines of overflying rights for Qantas being taken away ie for Aust-Asia and even onwards European legs over Indonesian airspace which would increase journey times massively.

Any insight would be excellent as im very unsure as to why our country hasnt followed the lead of these other countries- ie EU, USA etc.

It doesn't affect only Qantas but other international flights to and from Australia that overfly Indonesia.
