Flash Memory is a very very resilient method of storage. They do survive going in the wash etc.

Unlike ipod shuffles....my daughter's poor little shuffle died a horrible death after going a few round with the washing machine

I would have thought ipod shuffles would survive...

although perhaps the buttons on the device make it more suseptible to water damage.
