Default Kangaroo route delays

A few of the regulars from London have been cancelled or significantly delayed due weather.

BA9 and BA15 departures on Sunday evening were cancelled (they are the Tues am YSSY arrivals)
All BA "long haul" out of Heathrow on Monday due out before 1700Z were cancelled. (For some Brits anything more than 2 hrs is 'long haul' , but I think intercontinental is a better defn). A few thousand refunds wont look good on the BA bottom line.

Cathay, Qantas, Singapore and Virgin to Sydney have had no cancellations as yet but are all significantly delayed into and out of Heathrow.

Currently:
EGLL 021450Z 01007KT 340V050 1700 R09R/1200 SN BKN006 M00/M01 Q0993

and doesn't look like its getting any better soon.

TAF (forecast):
EGLL 021059Z 0212/0318 04013KT 9999 -SN BKN025 BECMG 0213/0216 1500 SN BKN006 PROB40 TEMPO 0215/0221 0200 +SN VV/// BECMG 0221/0224 19006KT -RASN BR BKN004 BECMG 0300/0303 6000 NSW SCT012 BECMG 0308/0311 9999 PROB30 TEMPO 0311/0318 5000 SHRASN BKN014

(TAF decoder here: http://aviationweather.gov/static/help/taf-decode.php)

Delays are expected again later in the week.

Default Qantas London Flights 2/2/09

Anyone know why the QF2 departure from LHR has been delayed from tonight (mon 2/2) until morning? Now before anyone gives the simple answer due to snow, I am aware of the snow as I can see it out my window, but cannot understand why QF10 is scheduled to leave on time but QF2 delayed.

PS all inbound flights have arrived, althought QF29 was about 3 hours late so that cannot be a major reason.

Might have something to do with the weather.

Due to the adverse weather conditions at Heathrow Airport, flights to and from the airport are subject to significant delays and cancellations. Please check with your airline for the latest information before leaving for the airport.

Services on Heathrow Express are currently suspended and a very limited service is operating on Heathrow Connect trains between Heathrow and Paddington. With bus and rail services affected and difficult road conditions across the country, please take extra care and time if you do intend travelling to the airport.

Across the country air passengers faced severe delays and disruption. At Heathrow nearly 800 flights were cancelled and others faced long delays after 11cm of snow fell at the airport. One landing aircraft skidded off a runway on to a grassed area, but there were no injuries.

Both of the airport's runways were temporarily closed before one later reopened. BAA said the airport was using many of its 58 snow ploughs, snow blowers and other specialist vehicles as it battled to reopen runways. Industry sources said most long-haul flights were able to land as they were given priority. But short-haul flights from Europe were among the first to be cancelled. Some were diverted to airports not affected.

Manchester airport accepted 13 flights from the South-east, and passengers from Milan, Krakow, Alicante and Dublin, heading to Bristol, were flown to Bournemouth, Exeter and Cardiff. About 200 Ryanair flights were cancelled, and all BA flights from Heathrow were cancelled until 5pm. Flights were also disrupted at Gatwick, Luton, Southampton, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle, while London City and Edinburgh airports closed.

QF2's delay is apparently due to a tech issue with the aircraft, just happened to coincide with some very heavy snowfalls!

Thanks was pretty certain it wasn't due to the snow.
