Default Tiger not going anywhere

Caller to Melbourne radio has just said Tiger Airlines may be in trouble.

Terminal is closed and in darkness and all planes closed on apron.

Don't now how accurate but could be a sign that they have hit the wall.

Something is definitely amiss.

Tiger appear to only have 5 departures from MEL today according to the airport website and the first of those is cancelled!!

Direct from Melbourne Airport website...2 flights today (4/2) - one cancelled, other departed??? Looks like there is something definately wrong. Also this doesn't show any of their other daily flights to Canberra, Hobart, Perth...

Firstly, the MELAIR.COM website is nuts, an ADL flight tonight has apparently left...Airport site is also very inaccurate in terms of displaying the actual flights. There is about 5-10 other departures today to PER,HBA,LST,OOL etc..

There was no departures last night from 1915, so they closed the terminal, I saw this myself as I arrived from OOL on Tiger at 10.30pm last night.

From Experience, Tiger has poor demand on Tues/Wed(especially Adelaide), so not as much action down at T4. No midnight horrors also which might explain the "all planes closed on apron". They were also all there yesterday morning until the morning ROK departure.

FYI, if you just enter "TT" into the flight info search field on melair.com some other Tiger flights appear over the coming days - but not all of them.

It seems you can still book flights for today and tomorrow on Tiger's website though.

If you peruse through the Flight schedule on the Tiger website, February appears to have a planned reduced schedule. Very little flying on Tuesdays and a lack of the red eye flights from Perth. Maybe planned maintenance or crewing issues associated with training new crews for the ramp up in March for the Adelaide Hub?

From the heraldsun.com.au
Quote:
BUDGET carrier Tiger Airways has been forced to cut scheduled flights out of Melbourne because of a lack of passengers.
In further evidence of growing economic concerns among Australians, there will be no Tiger Airways flights leaving or landing at Melbourne between 9am and 12.45pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the whole of this month.
Tiger spokesman Matt Hobbs said the airline had chosen to adjust its schedule because of a drop in demand.
He insisted flights had not been cancelled and that the airline was not struggling.
"Nothing could be further from the truth," he said.
"We have done some rescheduling for February so we have a few planes sitting on the ground in the mornings.
"February is traditionally a particularly slow month because people are going back to school, back to work and businesses are getting their house in order before travelling."
Mr Hobbs said the downturn followed bumper months in December and January.
He said the flight schedule would increase again in March and April.
He said the airline was continuing its expansion in Australia with, new planes, another five routes to be announced soon and an expansion in Adelaide.
