Default Tiger Oz to get A330s for Int Ops?

Article in the SMH this morning mentions VA will be announcing some changes to International Ops in August, with more speculation that Tiger will take over many routes and as a result, also take some larger aircraft (A330s possibly - my spec) to ensure they have the legs!

Interesting they mention that A320 struggles reaching DPS where the B738 clearly doesn't... this isn't the first time I've heard / read this but prior to that I always got the impression the A320 slightly edged out the B738 for range. Personally I can think of nothing worse than spending that long on a Tigerair plane, but perhaps that's just me!?

Anything over a few hours in a narrow body is not my ideal trip, if its day only I could possibly handle it but overnight, no chance.

From Australia sure, but I've done many trips on the 757 PS from United between SFO/LAX to JFK (6 Hours) nice when you could get row 9, the new seating config just doesn't work the same for me.

I have large feet, those foot wells just doesn't fit me well, not to mention having to step over people.

The switch by UA to EWR has changed my carrier into NY.

Fully loaded the 738 does about 300nm more than a fully loaded A320, although I believe sharklet aircraft do bridge that gap.

That is why JQ never ran BNE/SYD/MEL-DPS direct in A320s for any sustained period, whereas Virgin is able to, still payload limited on some days. I think the issue is related to the fuel tank capacity of the A320 (19t?) vs B738 (20.9t). IMHO the B737-700 is the perfect aircraft for AUS-DPS except the -800 can hold a full load (30+ more pax) ex DPS.

The A319 would do a good job too.
