Question Advice please - airband receivers

Hi guys

I'm thinking of acquiring a handheld airband scanner - can anyone offer any advice as to the best reasonably priced (<$500) unit to look for.

All advice would be gratefully appreciated

thanks

Dave

Gday Dave,

Not sure if this will help you or not but i got some pretty good advice when i was looking for one on this thread and am still very happy with my purchase. Ended up with the Uniden UBC73XLT if that helps. From recollection i didn't pay more than 200 for it either.

There are some other threads out there just don't have time to find them and im sure others can be of greater assistance than myself.

(Somehow, i actually picked up a Newcastle frequency here the other day...got to have been a rouge wave of some sort. Is anyone able to tell me if that is even possible? It didn't last long though but was still very clear)

Go for Uniden. Stay away from Icom. UBC93XLT is a ripper for about $300.00 bucks.

I have one of these little beauties .... great little receiver, robust , and has good reception sensitivity ...I've owned AOR and Icom in the past , they have long since died , but my old Uniden of almost 20yrs vintage has outlived them all ... Great $ value too ..

What's wrong with Icom???

Mine is still going strong after probably 6 years or so... I'd highly reccommend an Icom.

Dave,

Dick Smith only have the 92XLT and they are overpriced for that. Ryda.com have the 93XLT priced at $215. If they are out of stock, Andrews Communications (andrewscom.com.au) at Greystaines have them in stock at $219. Andrews also have other brands like Icom, AOR, Yaesu, Kenwood and Alinco in store so you can check them out before you buy. (No, I'm not affiliated with Andrews - I just appreciate the range and prices they have)

Hope this helps.

4-1. I'm still using my Uniden Bearcat 120 XLT which I bought 10 years ago... it's a bit bulkier and heavier than the ones available now, but still working flawlessly.

Anyone know the difference between the 92XLT that DSE sell and the 93XLT? A friend of mine just got the former.
