Airbus stops A340 production.
Sad news, the A340 is one of my favourite airbus aircraft.
Looks like the T7 and A330 have killed it off. http://www.airlineberg.com/index.php...40-production/ |

It's a sad news but not unexpected. A340 is my favourite aircraft.

I've been wondering when this announcement would be confirmed, sad day indeed, the A340 is such a pleasure to fly on!

And the A380 at the upper end, let alone the A350 to do what the A330 can't with similar capacity. I've always like the A340 bits from Milperra!

a beautiful bird that will be sadly missed , ugly - ?? depends on the color scheme ...a great aircraft to fly on , very spacoius and smooth , even though production has ceased , she will be around for many years to come . http://www.airliners.net/photo/Etiha...cb1fd7f6532d2a

Isn't that an A330?
Sort of sad to see it go (A345 was very nice), but better to ramp up the A350 program and A320 neo. |

But perhaps the decision to go long with the A340 rather than the A330 predated the 777LR program? Anyway, A330s going well, A380s going reasonably, A320 going gangbusters and A350 soon to come. Same old A vs B leapfrogging I suppose.... |

The A340, at least in its first guise, would never have had a long life. The first time I travelled on one was with SriLankan Airlines, and I was puzzled why you would use four Boeing 737 issues (CFM56s on that one) on an aircraft designed to fly long-haul. Sure, the -600 and -500 were major improvements, but at the end of the day fuel prices made them uneconomic against the 777s. With extended twin ops now the standard in most of the world (SYD-EZE and SYD-JNB excepted), Airbus's bet on the '4 engines for longhaul' mantra ultimately lost out
