Not a 747, not a 737, not an A330 but a.........
Hydraulics, nothing major but not worth taking all the way to Manila (we already have one AoG there, we don't need another!) |

I witnessed the event in person as I was there at the time. The aircraft was clearly visible while dumping fuel off Botany Bay which made for quite a sight! It made a safe landing shortly after and was surrounded by fire trucks and escorted to the gate with fire trucks surrounding the aircraft for quite some time before dispersing.

Be good to see some comments from CASA The people who matter at QF are doing the best job they can under the circumstances, but the regulatory authority needs to start looking at QANTAS closely from the top down. Although i doubt CASA will do anything until the inevitable happens Tubbsy |

I and several other spotters were approached by channel 7 and 10 about the incident. Unfortunately they didn't get much cooperation or 'sensational' stuff to use and left shortly after. I asked one reporter from channel 7 why all the Qantas bashing and all I got was a smile and 'thanks for your time'.

when your in the business of transporting many hundreds at one time in a tube you should expect media attention...I don't see it as bashing, just reporting a story that the public has a right to know about.
Qantas gets scrutinised intensely because their reputation is second to none in terms of safety, I guess you could say that the media is keeping the bastards honest. |

The pilot called "pan" and advised of hydraulic issues, some sort of alarm noise was audible in the background while he was talking to the ground.
The pilot seemed very calm throughout the whole incident however he was quite adament and advised on numerous occasions they had to land "ASAP". |
