Default MH122 return

Not sure why but Mh122 has returned to Syd with an issue with a pax onboard, aircraft appears to be off the end of 16R on the taxiway with the runway not active.

With MH122 still isolated from the rest of the airport down the southern end of 16R, Sydney airport is using 16L only for arrivals and departures with holding times increasing.

We could be about to see maybe the first A380 landing on runway 16L with EK413 just turning downwind for landing.

Oh no, EK413 is going to land on runway 25. Possibly due to wing clearances. A UPS B748 took off from runway 25 probably for the same reason.

I understand with a mechanical fault or fire issue that aircraft may remain on runway or block runway on landing , but in cases like these would it not make sense to have aircraft go back to gate , or on a remote stand at airport rather than blocking runways ?

As the pax in question allegedly made threats against the aircraft (along the lines of having an explosive device on board), not really, no.

There isn't really anywhere else at SYD to isolate an aircraft in this situation that wouldn't take a runway out of service because of proximity to terminals, other aircraft, refuelling infrastructure, public roads, etc. They could have isolated it on 16L/34R or a taxiway in that part of the airfield but the effect would be the same and there are other assets in that area that need protecting, and more difficult in terms of emergency response.

Fed Pol took too long to enter the plane. 3 hours. Nah, I know you got to know what type of person etc. etc you have to deal with and on board but, 3 hours is far too long!
