SAAB VH-KDK
The first ever Saab 340 to be registered in Australia in 1985 has suffered an emergency with a smoke indicator alerting the pilots of smoke onboard and shortly after, the cabin started filling with smoke.
The aircraft is part of the REX Airlines fleet via Pel-Air Aviation Pty Ltd based in Mascot, Sydney, Australia. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Regional Express Holdings, which also owns Australian airline Rex Airlines. This was the first Saab 340 to be acquired by Kendell Airlines and the first Saab 340 to be sold to an airline in the Southern Hemisphere An emergency landing at Cobar in country New South Wales with local Fire and Rescue crews quickly to work dismantling the plane to locate the source of the fire and extinguish it. The batteries were quickly isolated as initially thought it was caused by an electrical harness. After a second inspection inside the aircraft it was found to have significant damage to the flooring in which the fire had started. The floor was removed and checked for further signs of heat and determined safe, the aircraft was secured, ventilated and the site handed over to airport staff. Excellent job by all involved, the quick action by firefighters and aircraft crew prevented total loss of the aircraft https://www.facebook.com/AIRLINESECRETS/ https://www.facebook.com/story.php?s...vYL5b2pZA&_rdr Lucky Last edited by Greg Hyde; 24th April 2023 at 10:19 AM.
